Three Sunday ideas with kids in Los Angeles
Guide dates: 2026-09-20.
Sunday can be a gentle museum hour, a full-on puppet festival, or an art-filled stroll. These three options are all free to attend, though parking, shopping and food may cost extra. Choose the outing that fits your family’s energy—and check the reservation note for The Broad before making the drive.

Sensory Morning at The Broad
The museum’s own sensory-friendly early-access program offers smaller crowds, quieter galleries, sound and lighting adjustments, and limited sensory kits on request. Visitors of all ages are welcome. This is the option for a family who would benefit from those specific accommodations, provided tickets are still available.
- When: Sunday, September 20, 9–10 a.m.
- Where: The Broad, 221 S. Grand Avenue, Downtown Los Angeles, CA 90012.
- Cost: Free event; reservations are required and space is limited. Do not assume walk-up access to this special hour.
- Getting there: The Broad garage is $19 flat on weekends, entered from 2nd Street via Grand Avenue. Nearby Metro stop: Grand Avenue Arts/Bunker Hill. The museum notes possible intermittent construction noise, so contact it about accommodations if that matters for your visit.

Bob Baker Day
The marionette theater’s free annual festival brings puppet shows, music and family activities to LA State Historic Park. Puppet shows are scheduled throughout the day, so a shorter visit can still catch one. The organizer also lists a “Rest Nest” book nook with a reduced-sensory environment; the whole outdoor festival is not billed as sensory-friendly.
- When: Sunday, September 20, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; puppet shows begin at 10:30 a.m.
- Where: Los Angeles State Historic Park, 1245 N. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA 90012.
- Cost: Free for all; a $25 donation is suggested but not required. Food and market purchases may cost extra.
- Planning: RSVP is strongly encouraged, not required according to the event page. The organizer says park paths are paved, boardwalk and compacted dirt, with accessible parking and restrooms. The park’s cement lot is reserved for accessible parking; a paid card-only lot is across the street at 135 W. College St. and free street spaces may be available. Metro A Line’s Chinatown station is nearby.

Pasadena ARTWalk
Browse outdoor artisan booths at your own pace and find the free fan-coloring activity for all ages at the info booth. It is a flexible stop for a family that enjoys looking at art without a fixed performance time.
- When: Sunday, September 20, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.; the organizer lists the drawing workshop from 11 a.m.–3 p.m., but does not state its price, so ask before joining.
- Where: Green Street between Los Robles Avenue and El Molino Avenue, Playhouse Village, Pasadena.
- Cost: Free to attend; shopping and food are separate. No ticket or registration is listed for general entry.
- Planning: Outdoor and open to all ages; the organizer calls it accessible. Street parking and nearby garages are available, with rates varying by location. Check the official event map before setting out.

One good stop is enough
Book The Broad’s special hour first if it is your pick. For an unreserved outing, Bob Baker Day or ARTWalk leaves more room to arrive when it works for you. For other September 19–20 ideas, see our weekend roundup.
